I’m less afraid of Noise than ever Before

Hello all,

Today, I am sharing a series of black and white images taken somewhere in Seoul in November 2021. As the title suggests, I have been taking a different approach to noise. I’ve always more-or-less embraced the ‘grit’ and ‘grain’ in my work. It just comes with the territory in this style of photography. Still, I’ve taken greater shine to that feeling in my work, and especially in my editing process. You may notice a difference in the sharpness of the images because of this.

As of late, one of the biggest changes to my editing process is not using noise reduction at all. There has always been noise in my images, in my work, because I’ve always used higher ISO to continue documenting into the late hours of the night in Seoul. High ISO translates to high noise. But, I’ve also used reduced noise, at least a little, to try to reign that in slightly. But, not anymore. You see the full-grain, grit version of my latest photography and images that I’ve revisited to edit.

I hope you enjoy the following series of images from November 2021. The change should be obvious, as these were photographed at night, with some shot at 12800 ISO and edited with 0 noise reduction.
