I’ve compiled this list of South Korea Administrative Divisions to help guide you through the cities and towns you may be searching for. I’m Don, a photographer, this is mainly constructed to help you navigate to specific towns or cities of my photography archive of the country. But if it serves to help you in another way, I’m happy with that as well.

Overview of  South Korea Administrative Divisions:
The capital city is referred to as a “special city”, following that there are 6 “metropolitan cities” and an additional “special self-governed city”. I just refer to these as the 8 major cities., which are detailed below. In addition to these major cities, the rest of the country is divided into 8 provinces and the “Special self-governing province” of Jeju Island. The Provinces are also detailed below.

The major cities consist of the Capital City Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Incheon, Gwangju, Daejeon, Ulsan, and Sejong City.

Administrative Divisions of Seoul

South Korea Administrative Divisions: Provinces

The provinces consist of Gyeonggi Do, Gangwon Do, North Chungcheong (a.k.a. Chungcheongbuk Do), South Chungcheong (a.k.a. Chungcheongnam Do), Jeonbuk (Renamed from North Jeolla or Jeollabuk Do in 2024), South Jeolla (a.k.a. Jeollanam Do), North Gyeongsang (a.k.a. Gyeongsangbuk Do), South Gyeongsang (a.k.a. Gyeongsangnam Do), and Special Self-Governing Province Jeju Island.

Gyeonggi Do is divided into 28 cities and 3 counties: Ansan, Anseong, Anyang, Bucheon, Dongducheon, Gapyeong County, Gimpo, Goyang, Gunpo, Guri, Gwacheon, Gwangju, Gwangmyeong, Hanam, Hwaseong, Icheon, Namyangju, Osan, Paju, Pocheon, Pyeongtaek, Seongnam, Siheung, Suwon, Uijeongbu, Uiwang, Yangju, Yangpyeong County, Yeoju, Yeoncheon County, Yongin

Gangwon Do is divided into 7 cities and 11 counties: Cheorwon County, Chuncheon, Donghae, Gangneung, Goseong County, Hoengseong County, Hongcheon County, Hwacheon County, Inje County, Jeongseon County, Pyeongchang County, Samcheok, Sokcho, Taebaek, Wonju, Yanggu County, Yangyang County, and Yeongwol County.
